A large faction, over 20%, of seniors who are prematurely asked to leave their jobs seek to regain their identity and sense of self-worth by deciding to start a small business. This usually occurs after one or more years of resume rejections, countless interviews that lead to "no thank you." Starting a business under these emotional circumstances usually results in early failure.

The Senior Site surely has many visitors in this situation. For more than 30 years I have been counseling start-up entreprenuers. The questions are always the same and my suggestions to them are usually the same slanted to their particular business idea. I have had two small business books published, given hundreds of seminars on small business, received awards from the U.S. Small Business Administration for this work and thus feel qualified to help. You have a medium that reaches many people and my goal is to intercept would-be business starters before they spend severance pay, dig into savings or take on another mortgage.

I am not selling anything but do work under a 501c3 Non-profit, I founded, called Elder Ventures, Inc. whose mission is just what I described above. I have the time and think this advisory topic may reach some needy people.
