Went to see my ear, nose and throat specialist. She believes it is a thyroglossal duct cyst. Getting a CAT scan in a few days. If so, removal (Sistrunk operation) is what she suggests. Amazing thing is that this is usually found in children and young people. I'm almost 60. More information on this can be found at:

Seems to be an outpatient type operation (with an overnight stay for safety) I don't know about the recovery period yet.
