Exercise the Senior Way

Exercise is an important part in every person’s life especially for a senior. However, we must keep in mind that we need to exercise safely. What’s the point of exercising if it would not benefit into something and just bluntly hurt us right? So what do we keep in mind? Bear in mind that exercise will never be the same 25 years ago. The swing will be a lot different.

  1. Know which equipment to use.

  2. Warm up and stretch before exercising your muscles

  3. Wear proper protection

  4. If you feel any discomfort, stop.

For a senior, buying medicines can be very time consuming and very expensive. It is during this time that they should be saving money for their other plans such as a great vacation or buying a new house.

In order to avoid spending too much money of medications, make sure that you are taking in what you really need. More often than not, seniors ask a refill every time the bottle of tablets has been emptied out. Ask your physician first if you should still be needing to drink such medication. This way, you can cut off those extra dollar expenses and spend it in something worthwhile.

What is a Nursing Home?

A nursing home is a place that is setup in a very similar way as a hospital. It is equipped with nursing aides and has skilled nurses that will always be available 24 hours everyday. This place is designed for those who do not need to be confined in a hospital but cannot be taken care of at home either. While some nursing homes look like a hospital,. Some may even look and feel like home as well. It has the neighborhood apartment feeling of great camaraderie between residents.

So if your senior relative is having a hard time coping up because eventually no one is left at home to take care of him or her, then might as well bring them in a nursing home so that they can have more fun and someone will surely be around to assist in times of needs.

Keep it Cool!

When its hot, do not just sit there, read newspapers and keep the electric fan steady on your face. You cannot let the heat drain any activity that you usually enjoy. To fight heat, drink plenty of water. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and sugar. If you do not have any air conditioning system then you would want to go to the mall or to any other place that has and stay there for at least two hours. Make it a point that you get ample cool temperature for at least 2 hours everyday. With the strong heat, you better cut off physical activities since it will definitely get you so tired and wasted. Clothing is a big help as well. Wear light colored and loose fitting clothes. Eat light and choose food that has water content such as fruits and vegetables.

When its hot, then don’t just sit there. Keep it cool!

Running For Your Health

Running brings forth mental and physical power especially for a senior. There are things to consider if you want to run especially if age has caught up with you. First and foremost, think and feel if you are in perfect condition to run. Consult your doctor and have a check up. If you have brittle bones, lack of agility and some diseases such as diabetes, then you may have to run slower. Pacing yourself is a good idea. Also, keep into account the track that you want to run. If you want sceneries then you may opt to go to the park instead. If you want to see different people and a little view of the city life in the morning, then run on side streets. Just make sure that you are dressed well and your feet are equipped with good running shoes.

Laughter, as said by many people, is the best medicine. Being happy and joyful is a nice way to enjoy life to the fullest. When you laugh, you release all the tension, all the heartaches, all the emotional stress and all the sadness in your heart. It is actually a kind of therapy to stay healthy. I am not saying that we just have to laugh at problems and not try to solve them. All I am saying is that we should at least try to take things lightly but seriously. After all, getting a good laugh once in a while gives you an intense feeling of relief and it serves as a good therapy for emotional stress. Have someone to laugh with, crack a couple of jokes and discover the healing therapy of laughter.

Ballroom Dancing Mania!

Ballroom dancing is a great past time for seniors. Seeing them move gracefully and as flexible as a bamboo shoot brings forth a very delightful feeling. Behind those sharp moves, sparkling garments and intense upbeat music lies a great healthy routine that keeps the heart pumping as good as ever.

Studies show that the physical and mental alertness of seniors is being heightened when they are dancing. Physically, the heart pumps fast which exercises it and the body burns a lot of calories and unwanted fats. It is therefore encouraged that seniors try ballroom dancing. It is challenging, easy and healthy!

Divorce is probably the most devastating thing to happen to any marriage. It is most unlikely for a senior to be divorced but it happens in most unlikely manner and in the time when you do not even expect it to happen. Causes of divorce include the inability of one to make the other happy. Being happy in so many ways – money, sex, children and many more. The process can be very stressful and nerve wrecking. For a senior, it may cause several diseases such as panic, nervous breakdown and such.

Dealing with the aftermath is the most difficult challenge. Being calm is the key and also, once divorce has been granted, keep yourself busy to somehow ease the pain. Remember and keep in mind that even if you feel that nobody is on your side, God is there to give you love. Forgiveness will always be the key to let go.
