Most seniors suffer from localized or generalized Pruritus or better known as itchiness. For some, it is just a minor deal but further scratching may lead to more serious problems such as swelling, huge wounds and may even cause a lot of skin infection that can be very serious.
Causes of pruritus include dry skin or rashes. Generally, the inflammations in the skin added with the itchy feeling is pruritus in itself. Some prescription drugs can also cause pruritus. So it would be best if you try to consult your physician. For some, itchiness is just a manifestation of a more serious disease like liver disease, lymphoma, leukemia or iron deficiency anemia.
To treat this, you must first find out the root cause of the itchiness. Then, medication should be applied to help you stop scratching. Consult your dermatologist for the best ointment of medication to apply.
