Diverticulosis is a disease that is common among the elderly. If your elser family member is diagnosed with this disease then fiber is the best solution. However, there are times that some adults have issues with fiber especially when they have high blood pressure or has trouble with excessive gas.
Foods that are high in fiber are needed to facilitate the formation of feces and anyone’s bowel movements. Fiber enriched food require adequate hydration. Normally, 7 grams of fiber is enough for the day. More of it may lead to bloating and flatulation. Another cause of flatulation is lactose intolerance which is very common among adults.
Exercise is very helpful in normalizing bowel movements as well. There are instances though that contribute to the bowel movement like medication for diabetes. If the elder is having problems with gas due to fiber enriched food, there are over – the – counter drugs that can solve this issue.
