A former banker and now a senior filed a lawsuit against German drugmaker Boehringer Ingleheim, Pfizer and Pharmacia & Upjohn for breach of warranty and negligence and negligent misrepresentation.
He said that after taking the drug, Mirapex which was supposed to stop the tremors of Parkinson’s, he suddenly became addicted to gambling and eventually lost a lot of money.
The spokesperson of Pfizer said that they stopped marketing Mirapex back in 2005 when there was a medical study that was published which quickly linked the drug to compulsive behaviors which includes gambling.
The former banker then stopped using the prescribed drugs and joined a gambler’s support group. Within a span of five weeks, he had already stopped gambling.
