The most qualifying factor for lowering senior’s quality of life is pain. Chronic pain is terrible since there is no cure, only medications that will temporarily take away the pain. Unfortunately, when the drug wears off, the pain begins all over again. Apparently, the cycle just goes on and on. This proves to be very painful and bothersome for seniors trying to enjoy life as it is.

Pain is brought about many different factors. It could be from current disease you have; infections can also bring pain to sufferer or even those injuries you acquired 10 years ago. Degrees and levels of pain also vary widely and quite frankly, you can never tell how painful the next hit is. Pain affects seniors’ lives tremendously and it seems that the problem is mostly insufficient pain management information to help us get back right on track.

Pain can be controlled; if seniors only knew how to manage pain properly, their lives should have been so much better. Pinpointing the root cause of your pain will help you arrive in a more adaptable plan to avoid feeling it as much as possible. Excruciating pain is a major symptom of almost all illnesses common to seniors such as cancer and fractures. Health care providers noted that under treatment for chronic pains is certainly making matters worse. Some of the reasons why some people prefer not treating their pain are:

·    They were not informed properly by their health care provider; whether they didn’t express the concern early on or for some reason, the doctor preferred not to do anything for the pain.
·    Seniors with high tolerance for pain and see no reason why they need to seek help for the pain.
·    Seniors living with pain for too long that they already think that pain is a way of life.
·    The patient can no longer communicate thus he is stuck to the pain no matter how agonizing it is.

Do take note that if chronic pain is left untreated, it could lead to complication, mostly emotional such as depression, anger and even suicidal tendencies. Pain triggers different responses from the body such as higher pulse rate, panic, anxiety and sweating. It also interferes with work, relationships and almost every corners of your existence. Usually, prescription drugs are advised by health care providers to alleviate a senior’s pain but there are other alternative methods that will also deliver the same result if you fear addiction such as Pilates, acupuncture, and massage. If and when you feel doubts about a certain prescribed drug, it is best to express these concerns to the doctor at once.
