Looking for the Perfect Retirement Spot?

Planning for retirement is different from actually preparing for one. When you plan, it’s fairly easy to just toss an idea in and out but when you are preparing for one, you, almost always, need to make a decision which will affect the way you live for the rest of your life. With that said, it is important that if you are preparing for your retirement, you already have an idea of what you want and what’s the best option for you given your own personal circumstances.
Basically, perfect retirement spots for seniors are the ones that will correspond to their lifestyle and the same time, provide conveniences of home. It should be somewhere a senior will be able to live and play comfortably—and take note of the word “play” as it is very important for seniors to stay active during their golden years.  Here are some of the basic things you need to consider when looking for your perfect retirement spot:
·    Overall cost of living. Somehow, you need to choose a location wherein your dollar can go a long, long way. As I’ve said before, moving may involve several “no-income” months as you need to settle and adjust first to the new city or area. Aside from that, in order to live enjoyable retirement years, you really need to make certain lifestyle changes and that includes slowing down in terms of work schedule and making time for yourself. Also, take note of local tax system as it can also affect your ability to stretch your nest egg.
·     Health care system including facilities such as hospitals, etc. This is very important. Certainly you wouldn’t want to drive miles and miles just to get to the hospital in cases of emergency. A good doctor in the area will surely come in handy too, if the need arises.
·    Recreation facilities.  This is part of your “play” requirement. You must be near enough to the things you enjoy doing most. If you are into golf, then go live in a city where golf is considered as a regular thing by many. If you love sun, fun and beach, then go to sunny Florida! Anything, just to keep you moving!
·    Business or job opportunities. Even in your retirement years and despite your ample nest egg, there will come a time when you will need to add spice in your life or some kind of fulfillment, at the very least. Only a job or business can give you this kind of satisfaction.
·    Weather. This is very important, especially for those who experience health difficulties as the weather changes. For example, those with arthritis would most likely despise cold weather while those with breathing problems must avoid tropical countries.

Contrary to popular notion, being a senior or indeed a baby boomer can be financially hard especially if you have retired earlier than your nest egg could afford you. Unfortunately[...]
