Try asking a group of 10 about what they believe must be the most effective way of losing weight and you are most likely to have 20 different answers. No wonder, as there are hundred different ways for a person to lose weight, not to mention varying reactions of the body. Personally, in order for me to lose weight, I should adapt a low-carb diet—that is, eliminating bad carbs and opt to get energy from somewhere. Also, I need to sweat it out or else, all diet plans are done in vain.
However, I find that with a right frame of mind, you can actually be successful in your weight reduction efforts. Take note, it needs to be a right frame of mind—a lifestyle change—to be able to keep those unwanted pounds at bay. Simple eating habits and minor lifestyle adjustments will help you stick with your weight management plan—no need for drastic measures or life-changing approach!
Your nutritionist as well as your doctor will recommend these do’s and don’ts for losing weight:
• No matter how hard you cut back on your food portion, never skip breakfast. Unless your body clock is all messed up and you end up sleeping all day and awake all night then there is no reason for you to skip breakfast since you will burn these things off. Just be wise on your food choices during mornings. Avoid the “unhealthies” like sugary donuts or deep fried, oil soaked whatnot, choose fiber instead.
• Skip the salties. Processed, salted, or cured—these are the things you should be avoiding especially if you are aiming to lose weight. Also, salted foods are associated with gastric cancer and fluid retention inside the body so seniors are better off with fresh meat—frozen even.
• Avoid whities—and I am not referring to underwear by the way. white pasta, white sugar—anything that is refined. If there are three words to define refined foods, these are: malnourishment, fatigue and weight gain. In other words, they are not good for your body.
• Steer clear of carbonated drinks—even the diet kind. Here’s why: Drink More Diet Soda, Gain More Weight?
• Keep oil consumption at a minimum. Butter and lard, you need to avoid. There are many ways to cook your food, don’t limit yourself to frying no matter how convenient it is as compared to other cooking method. Grill, bake, roast them—just avoid frying.
• Choose the dark kind—i.e if you go for chocolates. Dark chocolates are healthier than milk and white kinds. It has higher level of antioxidants and lowers blood pressure and cholesterol.
