Senior’s Way to Happy Retirement Living

For the past years or so, there have been some worries surrounding retirement which I firmly believe brought about some major changes in the way we see retirement as well as how we go about it. Gone is the notion that if you were able to build your nest egg all shiny and good, you’ll spend the last good years of your life covered and worry-free. Well, apparently, that is not the case anymore and sadly, I have seen seniors practically dreading retirement.
Your retirement need not be a phase in your life when you live in constant worry and fear. It should be a time when you enjoy life and find purpose to it. However, it is something you need to work on if you would like to have a happy retirement living. Good news is, it’s easy, if you just keep on working on it.
·         Change your views about retirement. Your mindset is important in achieving a happy retirement. Bear in mind that your retirement is not always about money. There are more to life than the money you have for retirement and although there are things that you cannot get for free, your happiness and contentment should never depend on these things.
·         Find things that are worthwhile. Instead of focusing on the financial aspect of your retirement, do something that will further define you as a person such as volunteering for a cause you believe in or putting up a business you have been wanting for years now but wasn’t able to put together.
·         Make plans for the future. Be adventurous. Do something crazy. Remember, this is your life and you only live once and you should really make each day count.
·         Expand your social circle. It is never too late for new friends and it was said that friendship makes your life richer. No truer words than these.
·         Rekindle romance. If you are still living with your partner then there will be no better time than your retirement to rekindle the flame of your love. If you have shoved your lovelife under the sofa for quite some time now, then this must be the best time to pull it out, dust it off and give it another try.
·         Go for semi-retirement. I can understand those seniors who just can’t get it out of their minds—their financial standing while retired. Many seniors are going for semi-retirement which means they go for part-time and contract jobs just to have a little extra to spend while still enjoy much time to do other things.
·         Healthy body and healthy mind is equal to one happy senior. Need I say more?
