Skin Myths Busted!

Trying to make our skin defy the natural aging process has become somewhat of an obsession for some seniors. And I won’t blame them since wrinkly, sagging skin is the best age giveaway. Once you see it, there’ll be no questions asked, just simple guessing of how OLD you are and how advance your skin decomposition is—pardon the term but a better description to the feeling escapes me now. This must also be the reason why there are so many anti-aging creams in the market today promising instant result and guess what, they are flying off the rack as fast as you can blink even if they are composed of ingredients you can’t even pronounce right. Alongside it, there are about a hundred skin myths which we tend to accept even if they don’t make any sense. Below are some of the popular skin myths –busted:

•    Only topical creams can help you fight sagging skin, except of course, surgery. Actually, no. In fact, there is no existing evidence that topical creams can stop the skin’s natural aging process. The farthest they can do with your skin is to help it stay moisturized or in some instances, protect it from the sun’s harmful rays such in case of sunscreens and sunblocks.
•    You don’t need sun protection in cold weather. Sun or not, you need sun protection since it still emits harmful rays. Also, your skin needs to be moisturized more than ever since cold weather tends to dry up your skin even more than hot weather could.
•    Tanning is not bad for your skin. Well, by now I know you already knew that it is indeed bad for your skin especially if you are not lathering up sun protection. Baking your skin directly under the sun must be your easiest way to skin cancer. ‘Nuff said.
•    Expensive face creams can erase wrinkles. Bad news is, whether you are using expensive brands or just the ones you find in most drugstores, wrinkles, once they manifest, cannot be erased. Even if you succeed in plumping it up with Botox, it will just come back. So basically the only way out is preventing it from ever happening.
•    “All Natural” products is the only way to go. Unless you are mixing your own creams and really doing them from scratch with all natural ingredients, you cannot depend on all those products claiming to be “all natural”. First it is not possible to be “all natural” and stay on shelves for more than a week as your common sense will dictate you.
