Secrets to Looking and Feeling 20 Years Younger!

You must have heard about Bob Greene’s new book, 20 Years Younger – Bob Greene, being Oprah’s personal trainer. Of course, it’s not surprising to find the book now included in Amazon’s “Movers and Shakers” list as of this morning given the fact that it was highly recommended by my beloved Oprah.

According to the book, it is not impossible to take 20 years off your age without surgery – just science-based principles and techniques are enough. For us seniors, this is indeed a good news, especially for seniors who are quite hesitant in submitting themselves to invasive techniques in the name of beauty! What the book points out though is that we should avoid stress at all cost, the value of good nutrition and the importance of exercise in making a person look and feel younger and most of all, adequate sleep.

Here’s a quick rundown of the book and hopefully, my senior readers can get something from it:

* Go for foods rich in antioxidants and micronutrients. Actually, this advice makes a lot of sense especially that antioxidants literally are your anti-aging bestfriends. As our bodies age, our natural supply of antioxidant runs lower by the minute. It only makes sense to give it a little boost if you would like to stay healthy and young looking.
* Eat less, live longer. Not that we’re trying to promote anorexia here but limiting yourself to a healthy 1,700 calories a day is enough to stay healthy. Let’s face it, by the time we are old and gray, diseases will catch up. Sadly, half of these diseases are lifestyle diseases which could have been avoided if only we were careful of the things we eat.
* Walk, walk, walk. We, humans, try to make everything so easy for us to do however we fail to recognize the hazards of living a very comfortable life. Our bodies were designed to be mobile, to take us to places, if you stop using it for its primary purpose then it’s bound to self-destruct, don’t you think? Walking, particularly, uphill, as Bob Greene suggested will help your body burn fat faster.
* Combine cardio exercises with weight lifting. Now, now, don’t be threatened with the words “weight lifting”. The term doesn’t necessarily mean you have to lift weights like Hulk Hogan would do. You pick the weight that is most comfortable to you and you just challenge your muscles using that preferred weight. Combining cardio and weights will help you loss weight and tone muscles at the same time.
* Sleep more. When your body lacks sleep, it suppresses the release of leptin, a substance that is known to suppress hunger making you feel hungry and well, cranky.
* Fight wrinkles and cancer by using sunscreen. Sunscreen really helps in fighting premature aging and skin cancer so seniors are encouraged to make it a habit.
