While I still discourage seniors from going out when the sun is at its brightest, which is usually around 10am-3pm, I find it startling to find that almost 75% of the American population is suffering from Vitamin D deficiency. So much for my preaching! I should have been promoting healthy sunshine instead!
Just a sidenote, did you know that the countries with people whose life expectancy is average 90 years old are the ones nearest to the equator where it is always sunshiny? And, surprisingly, these 90-something people live in areas wherein farming is a way of life, which means they are always out in the sun and they eat what they produce, mostly because it is the most convenient for them. Let me add to that the fact that root crops are considered nowadays as the healthiest food for cancer prevention. Although may not be connected, we all know that root crops need sun to grow so there might be something there that is yet to be discovered.
What I meant to say is that Vitamin D is essential for your health too, although it should be in regulated amounts since the climate nowadays acts really funny and we just don’t know how much of the harmful rays it is emitting. Vitamin D is proven to help prevent diabetes or maintain adequate blood sugar levels. It is also known to help prevent heart disease.
In order for our cells to stay healthy and function properly, they need vitamin D. Why else would they have special receptor sites for vitamin D if not? It was also highly suspected that the lack of vitamin D to occupy all those receptor sites provides opportunity for toxins and other harmful chemicals to attach to these sites and take up permanent residence as well. In time, these toxins will mutate, replicate and spread around as cancer cells – your own cells but not quite.
There is no way we can determine what type of cancer is created from there. Just so you know, not all cancer cells are created equal and contrary to popular notion, they are not created alike. There are several permutations and behaviors that it just leaves researchers baffled everytime they think they got it all figured out. The only thing that your body can depend on when a cancer cell onslaught happens is your own immune system. If your immune system is weak then you stand no chance against it.
A little sunshine everyday can make a whole lot of difference in your vitamin D supply and it definitely won’t hurt you if you give healthy living a shot. Even if these things cannot guarantee you a cancer-free life, you are lessening your chances of getting one.
