When seniors were younger, they can get away without makeup however as we age, it is important to look nice and somehow erase a few fine lines here and there without having to submit yourself to a surgery. For this, you will need some face cover up which is popularly known as makeup.
Having to deal with kids and old people almost every day, heavy make up is not really practical for me nor will it ever look good on me plus the fact that I am not really into makeup. Maybe it comes with age or perhaps, influences in our glory days but I am seeing 60something women with outrageously heavy makeup enough to scare a poor 2year old away.
While I encourage older women to use makeup, it need not be clownish. If the problem is hiding those wrinkles, it need not be by piling up on makeup too. Go for practical makeup that will look good on you and just MINIMIZE lines. When I say minimize lines, it means you don’t have to make even the deepest of wrinkles disappear instead aim for a glowing skin-mature look.
Starting 40, try to load up on moisturizers since this is the time when the “moisturizing” components of your skin start dwindling in numbers. It will only diminish as you age so the sooner you start aiding it, the better it is for your skin in terms of delayed aging. Don’t forget to protect your skin too by applying SPF 30 on your face and body everytime you go out.
One telling sign that you are entering the menopausal stage is that you’ll notice your skin is getting drier – along with other body parts that are not supposed to be dry. This is why you need to double up on your moisturizer. You don’t need to spend too much on moisturizer either; just as long as it is made by a reputable company then you should be fine. One tip that I would like to share with my fellow seniors who are having problems in choosing the right moisturizer for your face is to try the ones made for babies since you can reapply anytime without fear of irritating your skin and at the same time, they are usually inexpensive. However, I don’t recommend this for going out since most baby creams are not made with SPF in them. If you would like to be adult-specific, then try night creams with retinol as it encourages skin regeneration.
Practical makeup means you should not end up looking like a clown. This usually happens when you put on too much makeup on your face. To avoid this from happening, try to focus on one part of your face. Find the prettiest part of your face that you would like to enhance and downplay everything else so that there is only one focal point in your face and not everything is happening at all once. If you are a bit confused of what your strongest point is, then try to think back what part of your face is the most noticeable or has gathered praises in the past such as your eyes, lips or perhaps your cheek bones. If you’re still uncertain, go to the nearest salon and ask your friendly neighborhood stylist. He or she is sure to tell you what is it and if you’re lucky you might bag a couple of makeup tips too!
Cheek blushes really do wonders on face. It is great for adding color on your cheek as well as driving away the attention to those spidery lines around the eyes. If you are not sure what color to get, have a little stroll down the mall one weekend and check out makeup counters – they usually give free makeovers so you can try colors on your skin without buying them first.
And lastly, accepting the signs of aging is usually the best work-around for your makeup problems. Instead of trying to hide your wrinkles, skin sagging and gray hair, appreciate it and flaunt it. Self confidence is the best makeup afterall!
