Fight Dementia with Food

Dementia is a serious condition which involves a decline of the mental cognitive ability. It usually occurs in old age and makes one lose the ability of thinking, memory and reasoning. This condition is caused by several conditions such as degenerative neurological diseases, traumatic brain injury, and vascular disorders among others. Like most of other disorder dementia can be prevented by healthy eating habits. You can actually keep your brain healthy and lower your risk of getting dementia by eating certain foods and a dose of sunshine. The following are the kinds of food which will lower your risk of dementia:

* Full o’ beans: Eating beans and green peas provides a rich dietary of B-complex vitamins and folic acids which are crucial for a healthy nervous systems and hence lowers the risk of dementia. They are often found in cereals and enriched grain products
* Citrus: Citrus from oranges, tangerines, lemons and other citrus fruits are great sources of vitamin c which is an antioxidant. It is very essential for healthy blood vessel functioning and dissolves toxins which accumulate in the brain hence causing dementia.
* Almonds, nuts and avocados: These fruits and other sources of vegetable oils are great sources of vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant which works to promote healthy blood vessels and blood levels which is very essential for rich supply of oxygen in the brain. Vitamin E also reduces the risk of developing Alzheimer disorder and hence reduces the risk of dementia.
* Fish: Fish is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids which are healthy fats that help prevent a type of dementia that is caused by blood vessel disease.
* Savor spinach: The green vegetables are rich in vitamins A and K, iron and folic acid as well as other antioxidants compounds. These compounds help in inhibiting Alzheimer causing plaques and thus reduce the risk of dementia.
* Coffee: Studies have shown that caffeinated coffee decrease the level of plaque –forming proteins in blood and also reduces Alzheimer. Therefore regular drinking of coffee will help reduce the risk of dementia.
* A dose of sunshine. A dose of sunshine will give you a dose of vitamin D which is a fat-soluble vitamin that plays a major role in regulating your immune system. It triggers the immune system to remove the Alzheimer causing plaques from the system and from brain tissues and helps in keeping your brain healthier.

A healthy diet with good supply of the types of foods listed above you can enjoy a healthier living and lower your risk of dementia.
