Reelect Clinton -- by G. Moore

Response to:
Myron Stolaroff's letter to the President

I'm an independent who is leaning for the reelection of President Clinton. The reasons? He is very articulate and is a superlative representative at home and abroad for this nation. His personal life, and that of other politicians is of no concern to me. Were I to find that he was using his office and facilities for inappropriate purposes, much like some of those around him (e.g.-Dick Morris), then I would have concerns about him. He's also human, of course.

I agree with your assessment that most politicians are self-serving. They all look for votes. I too, would enjoy finding, let's say, a Perot or Powell who would look to the positive side of everything (including their challenger's records and positive attributes), but I think it would have to be a non-politician, and I don't think we'll find a non-politician running for office.

A President's reponse to anyone (outside the politician heirarchy) is always as you received. I would look at the positive side, and note that at least he (them) didn't ignore you.

Let me give you one other reason to reelect. I don't think the American voters have acknowledged the radicalness of the Republican Right they put into office in 1994, and I don't think voters necessarily vote anyone out of office (who hasn't done something totally stupid). On the other hand, putting a Dole into office with such a radical representation would put the country (and us seniors) on the wrong track. A Dole/Republican majority in both houses would almost assuredly place the emphasis on our future America in the house's hands, not Dole's. He would simply sign whatever they put before him.
