I am also in membership services and have heard anything and everything in relation to the membership charges. I was working on a special program just for unauthorized membership charges. Let me tell you it was non stop. But I agree most of the problems are with the outbound telemarketors that are actually selling the membership's and a word of advice to the actual consumers. Tell your credit card company that you do not want to be solicited. They are the one's that we normally get your info from. I hate to see the general public bad mouthing a company that just has problems in one of there departments. I also want to state for the record that there is no magical phone number for the main headquarters in Minnisota. Even the rep's really don't have a number for it. Recently the fax number for our Consumer Affairs office hasn't even been working. But on a better note, the membership services deptartment is here to help you. I am very proud of the fact that while I may have to offer additional incentives to try to get people to continue there membership's I do cancel when turned down. I understand how it feels to be billed without consent and recently we have started to implement more programs to prevent the unauthorized charges including the taped verification of all membership charges that are started by a outbound call and plans are in effect to begin taping all membership charges that are started by calling in to place an order as well. I urge you to take caution and ask about the tapes. Thanks for letting me vent as well.
