I just read your message, so I don't know if this will help or not being so many months later.
An elderly lady I knew accepted every credit card offered, she and her husband lived on Social Security.
This lady was addicted to mail ordering, especially dolls, and items like those offered by the Franklin Mint, but excercise equipment, magazine subscriptions, vitamins, herbs, and miniatures for dollhouses were also among the thousands of items she ordered and had stacked to the ceilings with only small paths for walking.
There was nothing anyone could do to stop her. Her husband worked as a part time painter in order to help support them.
This lady never turned down ANYTHING offered.
Then one awful day, she was run over by a grocery truck and died instantly; her husband was left with nearly $75,000.00 in credit card bills.
Now, this is where it gets interesting; she never threw out a piece of paper, and as the family was going through past bills in order to put a value on the collection, they realized this lady also never turned down an opportunity to buy Life Insurance with her credit cards, hence the policies were paid to date, and since she died accidentally..............well, you know the rest.
The bills are paid, the rest of the money is invested in Certificate Deposits, and her husband realizes an income of $3,000+ per quarter in interest plus his SS.
Did you check your Dad's credit card charges closely?
