GIST
My wife Berthe (Bert as everyone calls her) has been living with Gist for the past 7 years and has had 2 operations so far to remove large tumors.Bert was on the oral drug called Gleevec 400mg daily for 6years .Since then her cancer came back.The drug Gleevec no longer works. After her 2nd operation to remove a single large tumor and part of her small intestine, she was put on a new drug called Sutent.Her new dose was 100mg per day also taken orally.This drug has serious side effects worse than Gleevec.After 4weeks on Sutent Bert had loss of appetite,burning and redness in the mouth and tongue.palm of hands and bottom of feet turning red, indigestion,diarrea swollen tongue.Her oncolagist had to take her off the drug for the past 3weeks so she could get her strength back.Bert used to weigh 126 lbs.She went down to 97 lbs. Now her weight is slowly coming back.She has gained 6lbs in 4 weeks. Bert is now on a lower dose of Sutent 37.5 mg a day 4weeks on and 2weeks off.I hope this will do the trick.
