BATH AND STAIR LIFTS FOR THE ELDERLY

A number of problems faced by the partially immobilized and the elderly are tripping down or falling. Further disability is caused by the injury fro the fall. As a result active and independent life is restricted. Bringing in simple transformations in the lifestyle and environment can stop the possibility of falling or tripping down.

You can use a stair lift to remove the blockade of stairs. Since these devices are electrically operated, they are inexpensive and trouble-free to use. Other names for stair lifts are chair lifts, stair gliders or stair chairs. Their function is to carry the elderly or the disabled up the stairs safely and gently. However you have to first make sure that the stair lift can turn away from the stairs and can be wheeled around at the higher landing so that the user can safely and confidently alight fro it. If an individual cannot operate the controls by himself/herself, then remote operated stair lift will be of great assistance to the caregiver.

Always make sure that the stair lift can maneuver narrow and curved stairs and easily negotiate intermediate landings and corridors, before purchasing it. You should also ensure a battery back-up for the stair lift, in order that the lift continues to operate even during power cuts.

A relaxing bath that eases the aches or drives away the pains and stresses is one of life’s supreme pleasures. A bath lift can come in handy while assisting senior citizens or disabled people who lack easy mobility, to have the benefit of the curative value of a bath.

These bath lifts come attached with a seat that in turn is fixed in the bath and can be moved upward and downward. You can slither from the side direction of the bath in the seat and the lift will lower you in the bath gently. In the same way, the seat raises the user to the bath top after the bath is over.

Nearly all of the bath lifts that run on battery power can work from the mains as well. If there is a power cut the batteries act as a safe back-up.

Those who cannot lift their legs over the rim of the bath or can’t get off and on the seat of the lift will not find the bath lifts useful. A fixed lift or a hoist will be more apt than the moveable bath lift for severely disabled people.

Majority of the bath lifts obtainable in the market are designed to fit the normal shaped baths that we use. Bath lifts come attached with a sucker at each base corner in order to hold its place. Check to see if the bath seat goes deep inside the bath. This ensures a deeper bath with a reduced amount of water.
