SELECTING THE RIGHT LIFT CHAIR
Those who suffer from mobility-restricting diseases like obesity, Lou Gehrig’s disease, or arthritis can improve their life quality by using lift chairs. In appearance a lift chair is just like normal reclining chair, but with the advantage that a mobility-restricted person can comfortably get in and out of the chair by smoothly elevating into a level that suits him better.
Different colors and fabrics add to the attraction of wheel chairs available now. Special characteristics like heat and massage facilities are sometimes added to those.
But the now the question is, how an individual can make the right choice to suit him from different types of wheel chairs available? Before making the purchase one has to go deep into the characteristics of wheel chairs generally found:
The foremost point is Weight Capacity. Lift chairs are built for people with the height of 5’4’’ to 6’ and weighing below 375 pounds normally. But lift chairs for people taller than 6’ or weighing more than 375 pounds are also manufactured. The maximum weight carrying capacity of the larger lift chairs are 600 to 700 pounds normally.
The next important thing is the type of fabrics used from varieties available. In a majority of cases a cloth like fabric is padded and the cushioning is done that way. However leather or suede is also used for expensive lift chairs.
If one were totally dependent on the lifting feature of the lift chair, he would remain almost stand still bound to his chair, in case there is a power failure. But if the chair has battery back up feature he would not have to face that ordeal. So this feature is very much important to get the chair’s normal service even if there is no power.
Another very important feature is, out of 2 or 3 reclining positions, what is the number the chair can offer? Even providing infinite reclining positions is within the capacity of some lift chairs and the user can locate the reclined spot that suits him most. In case the user desires to sleep even on it, a lift chair that reclines to a laying down position is in the waiting for him.
The kind of warranty given is no less important to be checked and weighed against other offers for lift chairs. It is to be ascertained whether a free home-repair and parts warranty is there. The period for which the warranty will be in force should be sufficiently long. If extended warranty provision were there it would be better to avail that, even though lift chairs are reliable generally.
