In addition to this, spend adequate time in investigating whether the services and standards being offered  by the pharmacy is actually implemented or not. Pharmacy plays a key role in promoting health in various segments of the society if it offers good services to the people in its area of operation. The pharmacy staff can extend the good work in the society so that the overall health and goodwill improves in public. The health literacy rate has improved considerably in many areas to a significant level by the efficient efforts of pharmacies.

If your local pharmacy has gained this image you need to choose it without giving a second thought. A pharmacy has a good record in providing health information if it involves professional health experts lending their advice to the general public. You may take into account the experience of other people in your area while selecting a  pharmacy. Check out whether your pharmacy offers a routine assessment of risk prone individuals. Also try to know about its contribution towards improving the health of the society as a whole.

Prescrition Drugs Prices              Reply to this Comment

We all know that prescription drugs prices are a problem for most Americans and particularly painful for those patients who are not covered or they are partially covered. Prices should be the result of a proper P&L, so it would be an almost universal price. Moreover, because of some extra exportations costs, they should be more expensive abroad than in USA. This does not happen because in the real world, price is the result of market potential and exportations have just a marginal cost, so price may be adapted to every market in the world. We do not know when an open importation law will be in effect in USA. Meanwhile, many uncovered patients, personally or by mail, are buying products in other countries. They are trying to avoid skipping doses or, even worse, stopping treatments. We, in Argentina, have the same, 100 % imported product at about half the price, sold by the same pharmaceutical company. We would like to be in contact with these patients in order to give them an option to Canada, Mexico or Bahamas which are not so cheap and, in some particular cases as generics, they are not so safe. This may sound as opportunistic, but we all know that there is a big parallel market which is not under real control and a strong lobby against importation law, so we think we are able to propose an open, honest option. Is it possible that you can help us to make these contacts? I have worked within international pharmaceutical industry for more than 20 years and have my own medical experience in USA as a doctor in Family Practice. Looking forward to hearing from you in the near future, Jorge A Candal MD jorgecandal@yahoo.com

About Medigap Insurance              Reply to this Comment

About Medigap Insurance Because Medicare won't cover all your health-care costs during retirement, you may want to consider purchasing a supplemental medical insurance policy called Medigap. Medigap is specifically designed to fill some of the gaps in your Medicare coverage. When's the best time to buy a Medigap policy? The best time to buy a Medigap policy is during your open enrollment period, since you can't be turned down or charged more because you are in poor health. If you are age 65 or older, your open enrollment period starts when you first enroll in Medicare Part B. Or, if you are not yet 65, your open enrollment period starts when you turn 65, and then lasts for six months. A few states also require that a limited open enrollment period be offered to Medicare beneficiaries under age 65. If you don't buy a Medigap policy during your open enrollment period, you may not be able to buy the policy you want later. Note: If you are currently age 62 or younger, you should be aware that your eligibility for Medicare may be affected by the increase in the normal retirement age for Social Security. Starting in 2000, the age for collecting full Social Security benefits will gradually increase from age 65 to age 67 over a 22-year period. This means that the age at which you can begin receiving Medicare benefits may be greater than 65 (if current law still applies) because the date you become eligible for Medicare is the date you reach normal retirement age. However, neither the Social Security Administration nor the Health Care Financing Administration has yet published information on how the change in normal retirement age will affect Medicare eligibility.
