One important thing to know about Plavix, in addition to other
side effects, is that individuals who take the medication are more
likely to have problems regarding the clotting potential of their
blood. Since Plavix discourages clotting of blood while traveling
through veins and arteries, that same blood will have lower clotting
capabilities in event of any external bleeding. Be sure to notify
any physician that you are taking this medication and discontinue use
five or more days before any scheduled surgery. Other common side
effects may include abdominal pain, coughing, chest pain, dizziness,
fatigue, nausea, skin rash, pain, and others.
More serious but
less common side effects include: gout, fever, irregular heartbeat,
sinus inflammation, vomiting, nosebleed, pneumonia, or intestinal
bleeding.
If you suffer from stomach ulcer or any bleeding in the stomach or
intestinal tract, this drug should not be used or else used with
extreme caution. Additionally, if you have the potential to bleed
or have other bleeding problems, Plavix should not be used.
Extremely rare, but extremely important, cases involving this drug
include thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura that can be deadly.
The risk is extremely rare, although you should seek medical help
immediately if you experience fever and bleeding underneath the skin.
