Zyrtec, however, belongs to a family of drugs known as second
generation antihistamines, a category that has been deemed most
appropriate for use among seniors with allergies who require
medication. This drug and the others in its category are less
likely to cross what is referred to as the “blood-brain” barrier,
therefore producing fewer and less severe side affects.
Zyrtec has been approved to fight both indoor and outdoor allergies
and, in general, has been approved for the treatment of more types of
allergies than any other allergy medication on the market. Indoor
allergies are year-round and might include things like pet dander,
dust, and mold.
Outdoor allergies are seasonal and could include
pollen, grass, weeds, and flowers. Many similar second generation
antihistamines on the market today do not address indoor allergies.
Zyrtec will assist in relieving most common symptoms of allergic
reactions including sneezing, itchy or runny nose; itchy, red, or
watery eyes; post-nasal drip; and itching that results from the
existence of hives.
Trials with Zyrtec exhibited few side affects. The most common
complaints were drowsiness and dry mouth, with symptoms being mild to
moderate. Most patients indicate that they received relief from
the drug within an hour of taking it and that positive affects last for
up to 24 hours, meaning that you’ll only need to take one pill per day.
Statistics show that Zyrtec has significantly improved the lives of
allergy sufferers and surveys conducted by the manufacturer note that
95% of users indicate that they are pleased with the drug and will
continue taking it for their allergies.
