I would like to remain anonymous. I visited my grandmother a few days ago and she smelled really bad. This has been going on now ever since she went to this nursing home. The people there are so nice that the people in my family feel bad saying anything. I'm sure that if she smells that other patients must smell also. I love her and would like to come see her more often, but I literally almost threw up the last time. Can you please have somebody clean up the patients on a regular basis. Thank-you, Susan Clancey

Assisted Living Alert!Reply to this Comment
To Whom it may concern: (It should concern everyone.) The best kept secret in Spokane, Wa. For Assisted Living, and Retirement is "The Cooper George". (Owned by Emeritus Corp.). Fine, old, thirteen story high-rise on Spokane's lower South Hill. Close to Hospitals, Doctors, Buses, Downtown, and Parks. Spacious apartments with great views. Unfortunately all these qualities DO NOT compensate for extremely poor management. (Warehouse mentality). Head Director is very fond of four day weekends. Staff is underpaid, under trained, uncaring, surly, and indifferent to needs of Residents. Shifts are under staffed. (Cost effective). (Highest Employee turnover in Spokane County). Food is appalling. Three meals per day of tasteless, ill prepared starch, filler and grease. (Very cost effective). Food is used by some employee's as discipline with Residents. ("Don't complain and we may give you more"). For fear of subtle reprisals, Residents say nothing to outside sources. They just move out. Medications are controlled and dispensed by untrained Aides. (Aides train Aides). Many mistakes are made. Theft and street drug use is rampant. Building maintenance is shoddy, and unprofessional. Heat when needed is sporadic at best. Hallways are ill kept, and unclean. Elevators are inadequate for heavy use of scooters, powerchairs, walkers, wheelchairs, maid carts, maintenance equipment, medication carts, and foot traffic. How Management remains under state radar is beyond belief. In response to fewer new placements, Owners have added fresh paint, new floor covering, plants, lots of artificial flowers, and a lovely water display in Lobby. Funds better used for decent food, and more qualified personnel. Beware of their facade! Looks can be deceiving.

Obvious to any one who knows Cooper George that is a rant from a disgruntled employee. If you have made a recent (and I do want to stress recent) trip in to the Cooper George you can witness for yourself that the article written by Krista is not accurate.

Cooper George is a really nice place and it is unfortunate they would be slandered in this malicious way. Go see for yourself

My Aunt recently passed away after living at the cooper for many years. After reading this blog I find it very accurate and quite up to date. And I am not a disgruntled employee. I have seen during many visits there how sloppy that place is run. It would not be tolerated in my home state. Very scary.

WRONG! Nice try changing your name. My grandma currently lives at the Cooper George. I read your little rant, disgruntled fired employee. And I turned it into the cooper george. They told me how you were fired, and now for YEARS you have been having fun trying to ruin their reputation. My grandma loves her home at the cooper george. I can visit anytime, and it is very clean every time I show up. If you kept your aunt there after seeing a dirty place, than you must have hated her. I never would nor would anyone else so I know your the same stupid fired employee. Anyhow. Grandma begged me not to take her out of cooper george. She says its wonderful. The nurses are helpful the staff friendly the food is great too because I paid to have more than a few meals with grandma there. And the portions? Great sizes. I was full and grandma couldn't finish them. The choices? A lot of them on the menu. The elevators? Spacious enough to fit 4 elderly people in wheelchairs. This idiot, and yes you are an IDIOT, was fired for almost hurting a patient and now they have taken even furthur precautions on choosing people to work at the Cooper George. YOU deserved to be fired, and it was YEARS ago. So go crawl back under the rock you came from.

To Whom it may concern: (It should concern everyone.) The best kept secret in Spokane, Wa. For Assisted Living, and Retirement is "The Cooper George". (Owned by Emeritus Assisted Living Corp. Of Seattle.) Fine, old, thirteen story high-rise on Spokane's lower South Hill. Close to Hospitals, Doctors, Buses, Downtown shopping, and Parks. Spacious apartments with great views. Unfortunately all these qualities DO NOT compensate for extremely poor management. (Warehouse mentality.) Staff is under paid, under trained, uncaring, surly, and indifferent to needs of Residents. Shifts are under staffed. (Cost effective.) (Highest Employee turnover in Spokane County.) Food is appalling. Three meals per day of tasteless, ill prepared starch, filler and grease. (But the menu looks delicious!) (Staff snacks on the best, especially after hours). Food is used by some Employee's as discipline with Residents. ("Don't complain and we may give you more, and better".) For fear of subtle reprisals, Residents say nothing to outside sources. They just move out. (Those who are able.) Medications are controlled and dispensed by untrained Aides. (Aides train Aides.) Many mistakes are made, but promptly corrected on paper. Theft and street drug use is more rampant than their incompetence. Building maintenance is shoddy, and unprofessional. Heat when needed is sporadic at best. (Consistently too hot or too cold.) Hallways are ill kept, and unclean. Trash rooms are filthy. Elevators are inadequate for heavy use of scooters, powerchairs, walkers, wheelchairs, Housekeeping carts, Maintenance equipment, Medication carts, and foot traffic. How Management remains under state radar is beyond belief. A haunting question persists in one's mind after seeing this building. In a emergency, (As in a fire.) if the elevators are shut down; how do some of the Residents on the upper floors in walkers, and wheelchairs get down? All are supposed to be ambulatory enough to walk down many flights of stairs. But are they? In response to fewer new placements, Owners have added fresh paint, expensive, new outdoor sign, new floor covering, plants, lots of artificial flowers, new furniture, and a lovely water display in Lobby. Funds better used for decent food, and more qualified personnel. These People are prolific prevaricators. Beware of their facade!
Cooper GeorgeReply to this Comment
Go and visit it for yourself. I will take you to meet my grandma. You can talk to her without any staff in the room. She will tell you she LOVES her place at the cooper george and that the staff treats her like family. Don't listen to this idiot woman. She is angry because she got fired from the cooper george. Want to tell them how you almost killed a patient honey? Why don't you tell them how you nearly killed someone and they fired your sorry ass and now you have to work somewhere else and how you can't be a nurse because it will ALWAYS be on your record that you almost killed a patient by giving the wrong dose of a medication? The ONLY thing the cooper george is guilty of was when they hired you. And they sure remedied that didn't they hon?
Antique Part Georgian Mahogany Side TableReply to this Comment Side
Tables
Top quality antique Victorian table, in totally original condition.Came from a
private estate in London. Burr walnut all over, with a Kingwood crossbanding,
ormulu mounts & a stunning floral marquetry insert on the top. The whole piece
is serpentine in form, with a drawer on the front & finished off nicely on the
back. Condition is good for it's age, with minor marks to the polish & slight
fading. Structurally sound though.
