SKILLED NURSING HOMES
A good nursing home is same as a hospital in terms of medical facilities provided. The nursing homes have shared rooms, doctors giving regular rounds, hospital beds, housekeeping and also meals. Some of the best nursing homes maintain a balanced nurse to admitted patient ratio and comfortable environment.
Seniors can avail care in nursing homes for both short phases or prolonged time period.
Medical solutions are provided to patients that require supervision for a while and are not available in Care homes, Assisted Living or Boards. The medical complexities can range from mental diseases like Dementia and physical diseases like Therapy- both physical or occupational, wound care, tube feeding, IV therapy and major infections. Facilities of a good nursing home is very often a general solution for senior citizens unable to take proper care of themselves, especially the ones affected with Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease.
While providing medical solutions to patients, an efficient nursing home will always work as a team. A licensed person known as the administrator supervises the departments in a good nursing home. The D.O.N. or Director of Nursing is the licensed person to administer the care provided by the departments to the residents. Every D.O.N. has a direct responsibility for each patient’s medical care. Their responsibilities are mainly supervising nurses, coordinating with doctors, and taking care of patient-related issues. To say it briefly, the D.O.N. is in charge of a patient’s routine medical care.
Other than the D.O.N., there are different professionals as staff to help patients in a good nursing home. There is a med nurse whose exclusive duty is to administer medications required by the patients. Therapists, both for physical and occupational therapy function within a set structure and update the doctors regarding recovery. The activity director has the responsibility of all social communication and the activities planned. The discharge after recovery and any emotional problem is taken care by the social worker.
