Can anyone advise me on how to find a senior citizen over 75 (female) looking to share my apartment in the new york city area. Very nice apartment located near beach, etc.
I have posted on a internet bulletin board and had no responses. I can't believe no one would be interested in living in new york especially near the beach, shopping, transportation, etc. Must not forget low rent.
Unfair CostsReply to this Comment
My mother recently has dementia and might have had a stroke. She is currently staying in a facility. When we found out about the prognosis of my mother I gave notice to where she was living at. We paid for the month of Feb., but notice was given on 2-9-06. I was told to see whether I could move her out before the 1st of March so she wouldn't be charged the extra eight days.
We did just that and she was out on the 27th of Feb. I received a letter from the residence and said she was not getting her deposit back, but charged for insufficient notice from 3-1-06 to 3-10-06. The cost was $246.30, which I thought was totally unfair. Her apartment is under a bond program, so there is a waiting list, so it isn't like they don't have anyone to take the apartment. I had called the Corporate Office and the person that I spoke to said, "I'm sorry but that is how things are done."
What if anything can be done about this. I have to pay (or my mother) has to pay $157.20, which I feel she shouldn't have to pay. We did what we could at whatever notice we had and moved her out before the 1st of Mar.
Getting a TV for MomReply to this Comment
Question - my mom's dementia is progressing. She sits at home with the TV off. Someone said that TV's (especially remote controls) are confusing to seniors with dementia and recommended getting an old-fashioned TV with knobs. Any idea where you can get these? Any ideas, period?
Thanks

I work at a skilled care facility and I have an idea for your mom. One creative family came up with a solution for their mom with the remote. They taped heavy construction paper over all the buttons she would not use and only left open the channel, volume and power buttons. It worked for her. You can also try finding a more simple remote. I wish you the best. Thanks, Stacy

housing for seniorsReply to this Comment
i have a beautiful south slope queen anne, seattle, wa triplex that would be a perfect retirement home for a retired couple or single. it is all on one floor but does require walking up about 7 steps. the views are breathtaking; it is all hardwoods, walk in shower, great gas kitchen, gas fireplace, the laundry is off of the kitchen. very beautiful and would be a great place for seniors not ready to give up the idea of home but don't want the maintenance. it isn't cheap but if you are in seattle or looking to move back ot seattle please contact me. this would be the place for someone who has sold the family home but still doesn't want to be in an apt. or sr housing. there is a beautiful deck for gardening as well and patios, etc. plenty of parking.

need help for friendReply to this Comment
Hello, I'm in Australia and have a pre cancerous condition. I have met friends online over the last 4 years with the same condition. A few weeks ago, one of them got dx with cancer. He is independent, vital and will be alone when he begins chemo. He has no one to turn to and does not know where to begin to get help while he goes through it. I was wondering if anyone here knows, who I would contact, in Sebastapol,California,to begin getting him home care, or someone to take him to the hospital etc. I know it seems silly that someone from way over here wants to do something to help someone way over there, but he doesn't have anyone. He's over 50,and very self sufficient. If finding you guys leads me to getting him help, then I've done what I can. Please let me know if you can help.ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have no idea where to begin myself. REGARDS to you all...Denise
