Now before you climb aboard here are a few things
that you may want to consider before you run out and buy that boat.
Firstly and most importantly, you must absolutely love water; because
unless your dry docked, a good portion of your time will be spent in,
on and around it.
Another consideration should be maintenance. Your yacht will require
upkeep just like any other dwelling and this is extra important when on
the water.
Next is knowledge, in the old maxim this meant power but in
this case it means survival. You need to be sure that you have an
understanding of the words and the ways of boatmen and that you
understand how to operate your vessel. If you do not, you could find
yourself in a sinking ship, literally.
If you've gotten this far then you will have to think about some
psychological and biological factors. For example, many of us are
quickly enchanted with new ideas and ways of doing things but once
we've done them then the magic fades. In other words you should make
sure that you are truly interested and not just enamored with the idea
of yachting. You should also make sure that you will not have any
medical issues that would make life on your yacht miserable; such as
seasickness.
If, after knowing the ins and the outs of yachting, you feel the
yachting lifestyle is for you, then by all means ñ all aboard and enjoy
life on the water.
