In January 2006, Medicare beneficiaries will have an opportunity to enroll in a prescription drug plan (PDP). For a monthly fee, they can save approximately 25% of the cost of a standard drug claim.

    In meeting this goal, there will be significant challenges in changing prescription coverage. Successful implementation will depend in part on the success of the new drug plan mandated under the regulation, and in part on the ability of pharmacies to promote informed decisions to their patients during this transition.

    NDC Health has been selected as the facilitator of two critical components of the program. They are working closely with prescription industries to implement new ideas and functions in prescription benefits. This process will take some time to work out all the kinks. In the mean time, look for ways to save on your prescription drug, such as coupons and discounts.
