If you find yourself yawning or suddenly dropping off to sleep, or
if you frequently wake up throughout the night, you may have insomnia.
Insomnia may be caused by certain medications, overactive bladder
disorders, excess intake of alcohol or caffeine, or stress. Insomnia
can be chronic or occasional.
Women over 60 years of age that have a history of
depression have a higher risk of sleep disorders. Another sleep
disorder is sleep apnea, which causes breathing to stop for periods of
up to two minutes. It is usually accompanied by loud snoring.
These disorders are treatable. See your health care professional for ways to treat these disorders.
