Mr Goodman...I thank you so much for your comment on this facility as I was seriously considering having my mother placed in this rehabilitation facility. She resides in Englewood and can no longer care for herself. She does not want to leave the area. Your input has made my decision very easy, I will not have my mother stay in a facility that does not care about the elderly yet purports otherwise. I had heard other horror stories about Englewood healthcare and rehab but when I visited the facility I did not see any type of neglect to the patients,However, I made an unscheduled visit today after reading your comments and was horrified at the conditions of some of the patients. Severely understaffed and uncaring..This is NOT the place for my LOVED one..Thank you thank you thank you

It is obvious by your comments,That it is you who have not checked the facts.There star rating by Healthgrades rates them at the lower tier. I stand by my top post.I did meet with AHCA in tallahassee.They were cited for "failure to moniter effects of a medication " By the way a medication he was not to be on" as stated in the medical records. Yet they placed him on that medication, with severe side effects. That was the reason for the cite. Now really are you a worker or manager there.Because after spending $7000 trying to make a difference in elder care and bring Englewood Healthcare and Rehab to task. I saw the abuse and neglect first hand. I have records, pictures and many e-mails from Det.Kaufman of the Charlotte County Sheriff office which I plan on posting on the web. So the person who says "check the facts" you are deceiving the readers. When the facts are read, The facts are sad. It is the elderly that suffer, our most vulnerable segment of our society. Yes, nursing homes are regulated, but unfortunately the agency that is set up to regulate,unfortunately falls far short. NO RESPONSE...Read my earlier post. The years mentioned are right on Google.....A short analogy, If you had a favorite restaurant, and found out that the State gave them low ratings for conditions,that could be detrimental to a patrons health, and this went on for 3 years past.. Now this restaurant cleans up the conditions, and the State raises it's rating.WOULD YOU EAT IN THIS SAME RESTAURANT????? I would look at the past, as a pattern of behavior.And definitely be cautious. The past has a habit of repeating itself. Raymond Goodman

Bad expierences, bad reputation. Reply to this Comment

I just want to say I am a longterm care nurse in Indiana. I have seen bad facilities and good facilities. I have seen bad turn to good and good turn to bad. It is very hard for a facility to regain it's reputation once it has let it go. Unfortunately, often times it is upper management that say "cut" the budget that often leads to such things. It is often hard to get good help if you are not paying and/or staffing well. I am sooooo very sorry that you had a bad expience Mr. Goodman and I pray that the facility is working on making things better. Hopefully by now, they have gotten better staff who do care. For those of us that are dedicated and care it is disturbing to hear of the bad. I know that all nurses and CNA's are not bad and there are by far more good then bad. I certainly hope that whatever problems this facility was having the have strived to make things better.

I just pulled my father from this awful place. It had been recommended to my mother by a local doctor. My father had surgery and needed nursing to gain strength. Instead, the food was so poor he lost weight, his room wasn't cleaned -ever- during his stay. I watched a cleaning lady go into a room right across from him and give a cursory sweep in the middle of the room and leave without going around the wall edges. My mother directly asked her to clean my father's room and she said, ...later, tomorrow..." but never came to his room. Employees had a big group meeting all together and there was a poster at the 'nurses' station to remind THEMSELVES how the employees were 'family' - yet I didn't see any poster reminding them to give quality care to their charges. I have more but I'm saving it for Det. Kaufman. Thanks for your courage to speak up for those who can't.

Wow, this sounds so sad, but let be the first to tell you that I have worked in long term care for about 12 years and where do I begin. First of all nursing homes are not bad, just like in any other fields you have some bad apples who should not be there, but who do we blame? Most people do not realize that the average starting wage for a certified nursing assistant is about $8.00, its amazing that you can work at Mcdonalds for about the same money. I challenge anyone out there to work one day as a nursing assistant, I guarantee you that you would think it is crazy to work for that amount of money. Most nurses aides are good but go to any cna school and look at the 2 to 3 week training they get, it is not nearly enough. Then look at what a nursing home makes, not very much, Texas has the 2nd lowest reimbursement for medicaid in the country next to Louisiana. The public only sees the bad side of nursing homes, its sad to see people filing law suits without really knowing what happened, the only people that get hurt are the residents with these lawsuits, instead families should be more informed and should spend more time with their loved ones, instead of visiting maybe once a month and then being shocked when their loved on has declined, after going through depression of not seeing their family. Yes we have huge problems in long term care and with the aging population it will only get worse unless the public and the government wake up and figure how in the world we are going to be able to train people better and pay them better. At the end of the day there just isnt enough money to pay people what they deserve and it certainly isnt enough money to attract more willing candidates to this field. So before you judge an entire facility I challenge you to walk a mile in the shoes of a nursing assistant, you would be suprised and less judgemental. The above was in response to another nursing home in Texas, but it sounds familiar to this story. All I can say is that there is alot of talk from the public about how bad it is, well, damn, get off your lazy butt and volunteer, when is the public going to finally realize the only solutuin is more people to help, well who do you think needs to help? WE ALL DO. Stop threatening and be productive in helping all people in every nursing home out. This problem is not isolated to this facility it goes on every day in every nursing home. But if you really want to see horror stories go to your local hospital, come on people this is about all healthcare, stop singling out long term care, where do you think the patients come from in such deplorable condition, you guessed it from the hospital, but that seems to be so hush hush. Do some research on how they are regulated and how they can zap any elderly person with haldol and put them in restraints, and dont get me started on their staffing.

It seems that you have touched a serious nerve ,when someone responds with " it looks like you are looking for a hooker "that makes me think that you are right Mr. Goodman and you have a legitimate complaint.It is obvious that by reading these responses,that they must be affiliated with the facility in question. That remark was in bad taste and shows they are ignorant. Such a delicate issue, that your own family member was treated so badly than to have someone be so rude and show how low class they are is a disgrace. I only hope is that other families do not get hurt by such uncaring creeps. God Bless your family and keep up the good work. You certainly do not come across as a nut to me.

You are correct, I did go to AHCA, Detectives, Medical Review Etc. When an investigator gets poor information in during a State and Federal investigation, trust me you will get a poor result coming out. When a lie is knowingly told to an investigator,to thwart the outcome, people suffer. Why would a lie have been told about a simple meeting,unless............. I do know there are people reading this who were reprimanded after the meeting hence the offer of a financial incentive, You call it a bribe, I DO NOT!!!!!! I will get the answers,trust me. I also disagree that I am working the readers like a puppet, I believe the readers know that I have told the truth, I believe by the feedback or posts that a majority of them believe and agree with me. AHCA could not bury in their files my complaint. Through the internet my story is being told. It is obvious from some of the rabid posts, there is a degree of discomfort.When I post the actual medical records and other letters from the state, I am sure there will be even more discomfort. I have been reading the posts from the last few days, and I feel this site is starting to go in the wrong direction.People, I assume working in some capacity for Englewood Healthcare, are becoming very crude, nasty, and vile toward me. Really, I have a hard shell and it doesn't bother me. Please readers, posting comments that are crude takes away from the serious nature of this site, and I feel like were getting in the gutter with them. I really would appreciate if everyone can stay positive and post intelligent responses, as most have......pertaining to my Dads poor treatment at this facility..Whatever I post, can be backed up with material, and records. As for people who support me, and are now speaking for me, "PLEASE DO NOT".. Point, Ms. Hilton interpretation of my offer of money---- I am not doing it to just prove the poor treatment of my dad, rather I am gathering information, for the purpose to repetition AHCA in Florida, and this time the Federal authorities (out of New York). Lying to an investigator to hinder and hide events during a State and " Federal" investigation just does not sit well with me.Raymond Goodman

after reading this web site from top to bottom it is very clear to anyone who is intelligent that Mr. Goodman & Family only wants the best for those who can not take care of themselves, and to stop other families from having such a bad experience. Yes I too think that sometimes there are mistakes, but to call someone hateful names only makes them look small and callous.I certainly would not want to be taken care of by such people.This scares me--for I am a senior,and this is not what I want for my future.Mr. Goodman is trying to make people accountable for their actions,only for the sole purpose of not having this happen to another poor patient.I hope Mr. Goodmanagrees with me,for that is my perception.I commend you for your efforts.You do not sound as if you have any form of dimentia,you seem to have a very sharp mind. I am sorry for your loss and I am sure your family is proud of you. Keep up the good work, just maybe you will become an advocate for the elderly. Just an observation. The posts that seem to come from public relations or an employee of Englewood Healthcare, seem like a Stepford, or a perfect minion, stepping in line with company policy. I see they never answered past questions about the neglect of your father, or about Ms. Grewski, an administrator at the facility lying to State of Florida Investigators. Thjis politcal season has gone on for a long time, it's obvious Englewood mouthpieces learned how to sidestep important questions,And put a spin on a "DISMAL" Past...A State rating is only as "truthfull"as the information a facility records and turns over to state investigators.So don't be fooled by such useless ratings..Mr. Goodman, and the sham of an investigation by AHCA should be proof of that!

Hi Everyone, I have never gotten involed in a message board before but I have to say it is so blantant when that horrible facility decides to respond.You just can tell by the verbage that they are the employees of this hell hole. How sad that the management has to go online to try to cover the fact that there was something clearly wrong in this facility.In todays world most people are too busy to take the time to find out what even happens to their elderly ( family or friends ) I think that Mr. Goodman is an admirably man who stands up for what he knows is right. I commend you. I can only wish other people could see how we all should act. If there is a problem we should try to fix it ,rather than name calling. Please remember Mr. Goodman that through out history those who try to change things get ridiculed even if they are right. It is clear to me that his father was put in a very bad enviroment and instead of Englewood trying to say how great they are they should just be straight forward and just try to make this facility a place where they would be able to serve their community.It actually frightens me to think that these type of people exist at all. With all the underhanded positioning management and staff do trying to hide errors,fixing records etc. How do they get away with it????????? Aren't there state regulations??? It fully explains AHCA etc.To say this site serves no purpose,I could not disagree with you more.look at the number of people on this site discussing Englewood Healthcare. Most posts are positive, some are not. Other posts are unintelligent, such as yours, yet the site got people to talk and think.To say it serves no usefull purpose, it's actually the opposite. do you realize anybody researching this facility through Google, or any other search engine will come up with my site. The researcher will than read what happened through neglect and improper medicating of my father Arthur. The researcher will than read how when AHCA met with Christine Grewski, an administrator at Englewood Healthcare, Grewski lied pertaining to a meeting held with my brother and myself. The meeting was important pertaining to abuse, neglect, and improper medicating of my Dad. Remember we talked to an empty chair in Grewski's office for 1 hour.Remember when AHCA asked for Grewski's appointment calendar, her response was " I threw it out " Does anybody reading this post with any degree of intellegence believe it??? I DON'T THINK SO!!!I believe people researching will be cautious with there loved ones.By the way I have received requests for my input, from people looking for a facility for there family member.I can only repeat to them of what happened to our father.I hope that I helped in there final decision of placement. I need to clarify my statement pertaing to closure. When I spoke of closure, I was referring to the coverup of neglect and abuse of our father at Englewood Healthcare, and not as you interpreted it, "my fathers passing" Death comes to all of us at one time or another. My problem is with the way, in which he died--- and not his death.My father was a religious man and that gave us all the comfort we needed. When you trust your family member to an healthcare facility, and your " trust"you placed on the facility, is BETRAYED That facility has to deal with the fallout of that "BETRAYAL " *** Now if you are one of the hardworking and dedicated ( to the patients care,and secondly to the facility) staff members at Englewood, then I would hold you in the highest regards, and commend you. The ones I condemn are Nurse Murtha, who when my brother and I arrived for our surprise visit and found our father in his urine and feces, and showing a severe drug reaction, the nurse failed to place anything in the medical records, to save her own hide. The one I condemn is Christine Grewski, Administrator at Englewood, Whom lied to AHCA, during the AHCA investigation. ( REMEMBER WE TALKED TO HER EMPTY CHAIR, AND LOOKED FOR HER APPOINTMENT CALENDAR IN THE TRASH BIN) The one I condemn is Dr. Om Dutt Sharma. The doctor that improperly medicated our father ( can't dispute the medical records),The one I condemn is CNA Mark, Whom left our father lying in his own filth until we did a surprise visit. and also I condemn AHCA, They new these things were happening there, but allowed this to continue. To the idiotic statement "We were you dads family and friend. Is it "love" and "friendship" to know the patient is showing signs of a severe drug reaction and you turn your head and do nothing.(BY THE WAY AHCA ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AND CITED ENGLEWOOD FOR THIS IN FEB 05). Is it love and friedship to have a patient lie in his own feces and urine, and not say anything.By turning your head, you condone the lie and coverup Grewski told to investigators. The message this sent to heathcare staff was it is OK to cover your butt at the expense of the patient, by any means, just cover your own butt.To the statement that family and friends never visited. A falsehood farthest from the truth, but in line with Englewood Healthcare's Mantra," it"s OK to lie to get the end result----That end result is to divert attention from the meat of the posts.. When I receive the final affidavit, I have decided to by-pass AHCA this time, as I feel there to cozy with the nursing homes , and go directly to the federal authorities out of New York.I believe I will get better results this way. I don't think I will respond to anymore negative statments about me or any other family member... Hey Mr. Goodman I just had to say itwould be an honor to shake your hand. You sound like a stand-up guy who is tyring to do what is right. Have you thought of contacting this health facility's local community newspaper or even a local chapter of several veterans organizations. Alot of us guys are shipped to places like this and maybe us old time vets can pass the word about your families experience. Maybe it might help someone who had to face the difficult task that you had to put your father in a nursing home. Don't let those JACKASSES make you feel bad, you sound to me like a guy who has morals, and I must say that is refreshing. Keep up the work. Englewood healthcare staffing is well above all. also florida regulations are the highest in the country. well above new york.or any other state, The highest staffing regulations, the the highesst standards, yes, florida does has, Englewood is a 5 star facility that few have in the state let alone in the country. So it could be surmised that it is one of the best in the US based on the facts, and not on the bs/.

To Stan of Northport, My father was in the pacific, serving in the Navy during World War 2. I don't believe he belonged to any Veteran group, but he did belong to the Knights Of Columbus, At St. Francis of Asissi.in Englewood-Placida. He was also a member of the church at St. Francis de Asissi Catholic church in Englewood-Placida, and served in a volunteer group called Fish. Stan, I hope that answers your question. Please note it is refreshing to see people attacking someone else besides me. Ex employee, I would assume that some truths exists or they would not try to discredit you.I can assure everyone he or she has received NO monies from me, as a post on May 3rd implied. Please do not feel that anyone needs to defend me when employees post garbage about me or my family. A note to John K of C. In the post from the ex- employee, he said the facility was warned that the state was coming for an inspection, he did not say they "paid" the state inspectors for the warning. Then he claimed the facility would fully staff with dept. heads etc. I do feel the inspectors are very cozy with the nursing homes in general. A quick example was when AHCA out of Ft. Meyer sent Ms. Pescatore (an inspector for AHCA)to investigate my allegations of neglect and the meeting with Christine Grewski. I called Pescatore while in the nursing home on her cell phone. During the course of the conversation she (Pescatore) claimed that no face to face meeting took place in her office but that Grewski spoke with my brother Ken on the phone, and that constituted a meeting.When I persued that issue pescatore was uncomfortable, and would get back to me the next day... She did not expect me to call her on her cell. This conversation was recorded. In the state of NY, If one person knows the conversation is recorded, it is legal...I called her Manager< A Mr. Williams who could not answer my questions and set up a conference call between Mr Williams (manager) Pescatore, And myself, to be done the next day at a specific time...The call came in and I asked Mr. Williams if I could ask Pescatore some questions.She did alot of hems and haws, and I asked if she is having a problem answering my questions with her manager on the line. Williams interupted and said she was at a disadvantage because she was in her car, and did not have all the info.to the questions I was asking.( wouldn't you think if this was scheduled she would have been prepared.I asked her if a meeting took place between Grewski, my Brother and myself on 1/27/04. Her response " NO MEETING"I asked her if Grewski had a meeting with my brother by phone( never heard of a phone meeting before)Pescatores response " NO PHONE MEETING". When I explained to her manager that Pescatore was lying, and I would play the recording for him.He told me he was not permitted to listen to it as it was illegal. I told him not in New York. He couldn't listen because that would of put him in an awkward position, his investigator lying.Williams got rid of Pescatores call, and told me he would call me the next day....... Instead he sent it onward... That is AHCA. Now I would question why would Pescatore Lie???? That is part of the conversation with AHCA that I claimed in an earlier post to have on audio. Thank you to the post concerning how state inspections are done, and how the nursing homes react by staffing. I never thought they took money, but wondered how the facilities knew inspectors were coming. Thanks for clearing that up. It would be great, and also give a true picture of the actual everyday workings of a certain facility if a true "SURPRISE" inspection took place, which would also include "LATE NIGHT" inspections. Hate to burst your bubble mr. goodman. Although New York is a one person consent state in recording phone conversations, Florida is a two person consent state meaning you have to have the consent of both parties before taping any phone conversations. It does not matter where you live or where the call originated from. You did not break New York law, but you broke florida law when you taped a florida investigator without her knowledge and you just admitted to it.There is plenty of case law to back this up. It was an Interstate call also, so it probably violated federals laws also. Some one needs to report this to the authorities asap. Shame on you.

What is amazing about all this, the only thing that they give me any credit of truth is, and now they claim my word is gold "Did I , or did I not" record a conversation back in 2005.....Maybe I did not. One thing I want the "poster" to understand, I plan on turning what ever material I have, (AND I MEAN EVERYTHING)to the Federal Authorities, out of NY, at the appropriate time.
