Unlike others who anonymously post here, this was not listed by a resident of this facility. I have no problem imagining this being a former employee. I would encourage anyone who would like to know the truth about our facility to visit our facility and see for yourself.

As a nurse who has unfortunately, spent many years working in nursing homes, I really don't think many nursing homes are appropriate places for humans to live or work. I believe that the healthcare financial crisis combined with American's disrespect for elders has brought us to this situation. If at all possible, the elderly should have their families care for them at home. I admit, there are some people who say that the nursing home is the best home they've ever had. Overall, they are just a symptom of a bigger problem.

Southern Oaks is not a nice facility. You pay your employees pretty nice salaries but I would not want my family there. Don't invite anyone toyour facility until you do some remodeling.

I have been an employee at Southern Oaks since its inception. I am blessed each and every day with the knowledge that I work for a facility, and for people, who share in my dedication to the oath I took many years ago when I became a nurse. As a member of this, the Pensacola healthcare community, I realize how small our city is and I would not, for any reason, work in an environment that did not represent respect, dignity, compassion, kindness and commitment to providing superior care to our most treasured and our most vulnerable citizens- our elderly! It would be an insult to God's grace to do less.... in my nursing pledge, I pledged before God to do "No harm" and that is a sacred oath to me... I am blessed to be a part of this extraordinary team.... come see for yourself if you doubt.

with your views expressed, it is sad that you work in a nursing home,. I can't help but wonder why you do, given the nursing shortage there is in this country.... our elderly treasures deserve only the best, and those believing they can give the best care that is possible. It is a pity , as a nurse, you've traded compassion, dedication and respect for a paycheck.

my comments were directed at the nurse who posted the comments listed under "nursing homes in general" not the post just before mine listed as "southern oaks", my grandmother and mother ended up in a nursing home and I thank God for those loving and dedicated souls who cared for, loved, and took care of my family. Very few nursing homes are places to shy away from, most are filled with loving, dedicated, kind and compassionate human beings who realize the phenominal task before them. Many in our nursing home have no friends or family, if not for our nursing home they would have most certainly perished due to self neglect. I am so blessed to have played a part in this tragedy NOT happening.

I am a former employee of this facility. I worked there for over a year and only stayed for that length because of the compassion and concern I had for the residents. But I soon found out that only a handful of people in a facility that employees over a hundred can NOT make a difference. I had to move on. I could not and would not work in a place where I would not put my own family member. The owners of this facility are only concerned about the $$ they make. Maybe they will soon be able to buy yet another condo at Portifino...

I happen to know that Mr. Church does not even pay himself as the Administrator of the facility. He is providing his experience and license for free. If Mrs. Church's salary was divided by the number of hours she worked, most CNAs in the facility make more money. I encourage anyone to really get to know the owners/managers of this facility and see what they truly value. This facility is not perfect. It is owned and operated by people and God made all people imperfect. The owners are, however good Christian people who value the employees and the residents.

Problems with nursing homes in florida are more common than not. Check the comments on Englewood Healthcare and Rehab. Englewood, FL. AHCA is just as much at fault for the problems that exist. They turn a blind eye, and problems continue. SAD,SO SAD........................

I have a relative there. I travel 300 miles one to visit. I have always found him well cared for and happy. The previous owners did a few things that may have crossed the line , however the rest of the staff seems dedicated.

I work at Southern Oaks, I have been employeed here for nearly 3 years now. I can Honestly Say I look forward to going into work daily. I love my patients, and other staff members. What can I say we are one big family. There is not anything I would not do that was not in the Residents very best interest. If there was neglect and abuse going on here I assure you I would not Continue to work here. The Residents if anything are pretty spoiled. Which is a good thing. Our Christmas Parties Rock, and they get many gifts. Patient Care and Activities could always be improved apon. Those are things that we as in The Medical Team continue to Learn how to deal with sittuations. Daily Team Members Strive to improve this facilty. There is so much love at Southern Oaks. I believe most of the comments of this page are disgruntled ex employees. There have been so many People who have come to work here and left on Ugly terms. And now that things are improving even more so. Rather then us let them back, they talk about us on this blog. I am sorry, if you are a ex staff member from here there is a reason why you are not here. We only except the best, or hit the door. A combination of caring individuals, that are trained well in all areas of the field. You know what I say Southern Oaks Kicks Ass... I love my Job, and I love My Residents. I will never accept anything but the very best for them. so Haters don't put your apps in. Because you cannot come back....

The bottom line is that this horrid Facility is long over due to be closed by the State of Florida but the surveyors have avoided doing so up to now because it is too much overtime for a state employees. What a SHAME! It is not fit for a stray animal.

HOWEVER,you make statements without any facts to back up what you are saying, maybe you should run for office. My statements are explained with what I SEE when I am at Southern Oaks. My relative is Happy , his room is spotless and all the staff are professional. I truly believe that the staff cares for the residents.THAT IS WHAT I SEE!!! I was just reading prior comments and noticed that some say disgruntled employees. Southern Oaks by any and all standards is the worst facility in Escambia County. If you look at the tags they recieved (22 or so) and the G tag and J tag they recieved, i dont see how any former employee could be disgruntled. "ANY" job in healthcare at "ANY" facility in Pensacola would be a promotion compared to southern oaks. Yea they sold out to avoid bankruptcy but the same old "family" is still working there. Only the DON has left as of yet...the entire family of the previous owner still works there. The state would have already closed this place but no where to house all of the current residents. If your reading this site looking for a place for your family member...do your research...then close your eyes and point to any other facility in the phone book and go there...youll be glad that you did!!!

Southern Oaks is the laughing stock of all nursing homes in pensacola. Doctors, NP's, admission coordinators at other facilites, DON's they all laugh at southern oaks. You have never been anything and you will never be anything. As far as S.O. being the best in pensacola...that new company needs to start by getting rid of the "family" then the rest of the incompetant staff...next bulldoze that death trap building and buy new property in a better part of town...rebuild, hire all new staff and then maybe they will be the best. Anything short of that and you will always be at the bottom. Ask anyone in pensacola that place is a disaster.

You seem to be very up to date on things there...must be management...anyway can you clear the air on a couple of things for me...rumor is there was a J tag for a resident who didnt have the funds to pay for meds...the meds where dc'd and the resident died a couple weeks later...since then the MD and ARNP have been replaced...whats your take on the "rumor". Also whats your take on southern oaks saftey lockdown unit...u take residents that are unsafe and keep them safe in your unit...but a man jumped out of the 4th floor window...how does that happen in a lockdown unit...or was that a "rumor" too?

I have worked in the nursing field for over 15 years and I have also worked at several nursing homes. If there is any abuse or suspected abuse going on where you work, it is suppose to be reported or you are as guilty as the person committing the abuse. As far as Southern Oaks goes, I am familiar with somethings that went on there, because I worked there for a short period of time. There are many employees that did a great job and truly cared about the welfare of the residents and of course just like everywhere, there were some that only wanted a paycheck. I could not and will not work anywhere I wouldn't put my father or wantto live myself. I did report what I know was abuse, which I will not go into, but I could not in good conscious continue my employment with Southern Oaks.

I doubt the new owners could change the shit hole that is named southern oaks. They should first get rid of all the re-habbed "family" that still works there. Their education might meet up to CNA standards, and they are running the facility, all because of who they know. Sad. No wonder they can't get things straight. It is always a good thing to have drug addicts in close contact with controlled substances that are being payed for by people who don't even know they take them!

Making positions for family members who do not have the qualifications to be in these positions. I figured once another company bought them out things would change, guess not. We had our aunt at Southern Oaks, and have been very happy with it. I generally don't like these kind of sites, because people put hateful trash on them without identifying themselves. But I wanted to take the chance to say something nice about the facility. Try out the therapy. And the management staff are great!

Did they help you with your rehab too? Then provide you with a management job? I know most managment and several nurses are in the Impaired nursing program. Some cant even pass meds. Thats great that they help drug addicts and alcoholics get jobs but it doesnt bide well for the residents. But then again the 23 tags from last survey speaks volumes for the churchs superior skills as nursing home owners.
