The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine
A lot of people find their relationship with their animal companions very rewarding. Their pets are their family. When there is a death of a pet or a time to put a pet to sleep it can be a difficult time for many. Fortunately, help is available -- The Pet Loss Support Hotline.
I was a student at UC Davis when Bonnie Mader and my classmate, Kelly Palm, started the Pet Loss Support Hotline. Now I am a faculty member at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and we have started our own hotline. Bonnie has provided our initial training and helped us a great deal. We are hoping that eventually every Veterinary School will have a Hotline. We believe it is an important opportunity for veterinary students. The Hotline experience will make better veterinarians. We also know that there are many grieving people who will benefit from a friendly ear. The Ohio State University Hotline number is (614)292-1823. We receive calls Monday Wednesday and Friday between 6:30 and 9:30 pm. We also have voice mail and will return calls as requested (at the owners expense). Please feel free to call, even if it is just to give us you opinion of our Hotline.
