On Your Thirtieth Birthday
-- by Anna Mae Wittig - Copyright 2000 -- akwittig@atlantic.net

A baby sweet was born,
Thirty years ago,
With the cutest little smile,
And tiny hands and toes.

I loved and nurtured you,
And much too soon, you grew,
Leaving far behind,
The child that we once knew.

You grew to be a beauty,
Both inside and out,
A woman we are proud of,
Of that, there is no doubt!

I'd like to take the credit,
For the person you've become,
But I just set the guidelines,
And you improved on every one.

So on this special birthday,
Take time, relax, have fun,
You deserve the best,
For everything you've done.

For you always make life better,
For those privileged to be,
Your friends, fam'ly, acquaintances,
And especially for me.

For if others had a child like you,
You bet they would rejoice,
For you are my child by birthright,
But you're my best friend ....... by choice.
