First Bouquet
-- by Joseph C. Dorffner, Sr. - Copyright 1999 -- jkebrr@sun-link.com

A little girl, a little boy,
at play in the back yard.
Though they not related,
just good friends playing hard.

She with her favorite dolly,
he with his tiny car.
Acting out their fantasies,
those both near and far.

These were moments of "make believe",
expressing feelings that therein lay.
Those that they to remember,
they each, ‘til their dying day.

Like when the little girl asked,
if he would hold her doll.
How quickly there he declined,
though with a tender smile.

Of the time he picked for her,
a bouquet of dandelions that grew there.
Handed to her with loose embrace,
to show his loving care.

She held them in her hand,
close to her beating heart.
Vowing that their friendship,
never there to part.

These were precious moments,
as memories looking back.
To that little girl or little boy,
whose whereabouts each other lack.
