When Adam Fell
-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 1998 -- JTB8817@aol.com

When Adam fell and Eve as well,
When Dido and Delilah died,
Cassandra wept, Van Winkle slept ---
This world just took it in its stride.

Through dinosaurs and Holy Wars,
Through fear and famine, flood and flame,
The battle-ax, the income tax ---
This world's rolled on about the same.

Despite disease and deviltries,
Despite disputes no one can win,
The dirty tricks of politics ---
This world continues in its spin.

But should some time I write a rhyme
With all the skill I long to learn
And then inside feel satisfied ---
This world would surely crash and burn!
