Barbara's Compass
-- by Sandy Abrahams -- Copyright 1996 -- water@ican.net

The swallows watch & wait
in their curious friendly way,
while pansies pause and giggle
and halt their silly play.

God's shy and tiny fellows
that are rarely ever seen,
now scamper down their course
in search of plumper dreams,

While deer peek from thickets
of secret dark and brown,
And sigh to see the spirit
that knows no fault or frown.

An open, tender blossom,
a heart that hears each cry,
A friend to help the fallen;
She never questions why.

And so pass her hours,
sustaining many delight,
Her days of dreams and flowers,
and spreading sails at night.
