Evening Star

The Babe was placed in Mary's car,
Stepfather Joseph protecting them there.
The gentle carpenter and lady so fair,
The sweet smell of roses lingering there.

The babe was swaddled in the manger box,
While the evening star glistened on his locks.
Three wise men came with gifts of gold,
To leave and tell what they were told.

This story told so long ago,
Of the savior born by candle glow.
It 'twas a time of hope and joy,
But also dread for this sweet boy.

To wipe away earth's wars and lust,
God gave his only son to us.
To the world this child is sacrificed,
This beautiful babe for greed and vice.

The star it shines on us each eve,
To remind us all to still believe.
Let's try anew to fulfill the trust,
To stop the hate, Dear Lord we must.

This Christmas morn thinking of his birth,
With presents and candles upon the hearth.
We thank the sweet Jesus this little babe,
For forgiving our sins, and the life that he gave.
