Fat Chance
-- by John T. Baker - Copyright 2000 -- JTB8817@aol.com

In younger days which once were mine
When I was slim and sleek
I had no fear that food and wine
Would mar my fine physique.

I spurned all thought of dieting,
Consumed a ton of grease,
Found little fare disquieting
Lest I become obese.

Disdaining calories to count
I gorged without restraint
And gobbled up a vast amount
Of grub with no complaint.

But that was then and this is now,
And everything I taste
Or sip these days all seems somehow
To surely go to waist.

My abdomen obscures my view,
I scarce can see my feet;
I'm living proof the saying's true --
We all are what we eat!
