The Center
-- by WILLIAM O. PURKINS, JR. -- Copyright 1997 -- Bpurkins@aol.com

I joined a senior citizen club
Refered to as THE CENTER.
We play poker twice a week
And I try to come out a winner.

I've never had a royal flush
Although I dealt one to a member.
Perhaps I'll get one someday soon
Playing poker at THE CENTER.

We have parties now and then.
We dance and laugh and eat.
When we go to Atlantic City
I seldom ever get beat.

It's fun to go to THE CENTER.
There's bingo, poker, and games.
Or maybe you'll just sit and talk
And tell 'em about your fame.

It's nice to have a place to go
And look forward to the moment you enter.
A place to visit twice a week.
A place called THE CENTER.

P.S. Here is a poem I wrote about the Deer Park Senior Citizen Club in Deer Park, N.Y. My wife and I have spent many enjoyable hours there socializing with the many members, going on trips, playing games, and going to parties. I have never in my 69 years been "a joiner of clubs". This is my first. For what my opinion is worth, I can honestly say that any senior that hasn't joined a Senior Citizen Club very well could be missing out on a lot of fun. You have my permission to show my poem, THE CENTER, if you would like to share it with your viewers and you my use my name also. I just discovered your Seniors-Site today and want to congratulate you on the great job you are doing. I will certainly enjoy returning to view your many, many things.
