I Would Rather
-- by Lorraine Marie Folse -- Copyright 1996 -- folse@earthlink.net

I would rather have someone
"to pick up after"
than to have no one at all.

I thought I'd rather be alone,
be independent, on my own,
a woman fully grown;

But- now I know

I'd prefer to compromise
every now and then
than to have to know it all.

I thought it would be fun to choose,
Be self-sufficient, take a cruise,
A woman who had naught to lose;

But- now I know

Your part of me that you would take
if you should go away
is all that really matters.

I would rather have you stay.

I would be pleased to hear from others. You can e mail me at Lorraine folse@earthlink.net
