A Wreath Of Blessed Memories
-- by Martha Mann Scott - Copyright 1947 -- sent in by L.B. Strawn - l.b.strawn@juno.com

I fashioned a wreath of precious Gems
And journeyed across the seas
Where I laid beneath a small, white cross
My WREATH OF BLESSED MEMORIES.

The fountain of tears flowed free, at last,
As I thought of our short-lived joy,
While I fashioned this wreath of the jewels of his life
For the grave of our fair haired boy.

I wandered, again, in mind's free course'
Through the years of "not long ago",
When a care-free youth with a zest for life,
Set prideful hearts aglow.

I fashioned it of each lovely flower
Of the loveliest memories that still live on;
Those jewels of memory that live in my heart,
Though his dear, broken body is gone.

Doubtless, the jewels I chose for my wreath,
Shine brightly on heaven's shore--
Those taken-for-granted gems made rare
Because they are here no more.

Heavenly Father, compassionate friend,
My wreath is not for show;
It cannot be seen by earthly eyes,
And I prefer it so.

But grant him, who now abides with thee,
A glimpse of my jewels, so dear,
And give him the power to see how much
We shall always miss him here.

His memories will linger through all our years,
Each Gem, a budding rose,
Within the garden of aching hearts,
Forever lives and grows.

In memory of our beloved son and brother, Warren Mansfield Strawn, who died in action October 18, 1943. His parents, Allen H.M. and Lura Belle Strawn, brothers, L. B. Strawn and Robert Earl Mann and sisters, Reynolda Clegg and Martha Mildred Scott.
