I am a senior in Perth Western Australia and have just discovered your site. I have recently completed writing an auobiography for my descendants, and wrote the following poem which I placed at the beginning of the book:
Youth and Age are forever blessed
The first with promise and much unrest
Until, at last, fulfilment comes
And Age looks back, its wisdom sums,
Sees the whole, without contest
And says, Ah yes, we truly were well blessed.
Yet Wisdom's cup is hard to fill
From pain and sorrow doth it distill
Not from self-pity, not from distrust,
Nor from blame on others thrust.
Shakespeare wrote: 'To thine own self be true.'
And by this means we our lives renew
To the grandeur that is our story
No other, but our own, in all its glory.
