- WARNING! My husband and I had an experience last Fall which I would like to share with you. We decided to tour Europe with a U.S. tour company. They advertised they specialized in those traveling who are over 55 years of age. This seemed perfectly to meet our needs. With their making all transportation and hotel arrangements, we had no concerns and left on this trip. On next to the last day on our tour, we had an overnight ship crossing which would put us back into port in England. My husband became quite ill that evening on this ship. I went to the ship's office of information as he needed medical attention only to be told there was no medical facility aboard -- not even a nurse. My husband had a massive heart attack and almost died. I later discovered none of these ships or ferry type ships have medical programs of any kind. Please could you see that other readers become aware of this situation? Illness does and can happen to anyone while traveling. Travelers do need to be aware and plan accordingly when choosing a tour or tour company. Thank you for your time. Dolores P. Ferguson, The Villiages, FL 32159.

- Israel Travels --- One-of-a-kind: a guide to the Holy Land for people who prefer taking it slow. . . The only guide to Israel which includes lively and interesting descriptions of 16 wheelchair accessible sites!
EasyWalks in Israel: Sites and Stories was written by former Jerusalem Post correspondent Aviva Bar-Am. It is a unique volume
of roadside stops, non-strenuous strolls, scenic drives, and
family walks all over Israel. Chapters are sprinkled with
history, legends and anecdotes. Included are new and old
Jerusalem neighborhoods, as well as the first Jewish neighborhood
outside of Jaffa, Jaffa itself, Rehovot, the German colony in
Haifa, and more.
For children there are bird safaris and playgrounds, a secret
underground munitions factory, sand dunes, waterfalls and parks,
lakes, and Amram's stupendous pillars. History buffs can visit
"Up to here bridge" and the off-the-track Bell Outpost or
Joakim's palace. Museums, parks, picnic sites, nature trails,
overlooks - in short, something for everyone, everywhere in
Israel. Sixteen of the nature walks, historic sites, roadside stops and
scenic drives are accessible to wheelchairs and strollers.
Special note is made of wheelchair-accessible restrooms and
lodgings.
Aviva Bar-Am is the author of Guide to the Golan Heights, Israel's Southern Landscapes: Your Guide to Eilat and the Negev, and Beyond the Walls: Churches of Jerusalem. For more information on the books, please see http://www.israeltravels.com -- To contact the author e-mail

- SOLO-NET - This message is to introduce a new e-mail network for single senior citizens who are outdoor and camping enthusiasts. The network, called SOLO-NET is geared primarily to widow, widower and single by choice.
The SOLO Network is a "subscription only" electronic network composed of senior adult camping and Recreational Vehicle enthusiasts who have access to Internet e-mail. SOLO-Net is a private
e-mail forum, for exchanging information, gossip, upcoming events, 'pot-luck' ideas, favorite campgrounds, or any and everything in good taste of general interest to "subscribers" of the Network. Thus, the Network works like an open forum -- a way of sharing ideas and interesting conversation just like "Happy Hour" at a campout -- and for support of friends and acquaintances who travel alone.
Subscription to SOLO-Net is FREE..! Subscriptions are limited to any single adult individual who is a verifiable member in good standing of any group whose membership is specifically restricted to widows, widowers, and single by choice. Requiring that potential subscribers be a member of an organization dedicated to serving senior single is the only way presently of verifying that a prospective subscriber shares our interests.
SOLO-Net operates as a separate and independent network not affiliated with any other club or organization (except as required by our ListServer - see below).
In operation, a 'subscriber' sends an ordinary e-mail message to the SOLO-Net address (to be provided). Messages addressed to the SOLO-Net are automatically re-distributed to all subscribers. Replies to messages are similarly re-distributed to all subscribers. In this way, the
network is like an 'open forum' where everyone gets a copy of all messages and replies and can join in on any discussion or add her/his "$.02 cents"....
Subscription to SOLO-Net is FREE....! Once subscribed there is nothing special that one has to do to participate - no additional software or technique is required. Just send ordinary e-mail addressed
to the special LOA-Net address which will be provided to subscribers.
We are now accepting subscriptions to SOLO-NET. If you are a senior
single adult and would like to join us would you please visit our web
site and complete the (easy) application form....

PLEASE STATE THAT YOU ARE, - Single,
- You are a member in good
standing of a singles only RV or camping club or an organization
specifically for widows, widowers or single by choice,
- ) You will not
disclose names/addresses of subscribers to anyone outside the LOA-Net,
- You understand that commercial advertising is not permitted,
-
foul and/or abusive language absolutely will not be tolerated.
Looking forward to meeting you on SOLO-NET........
There are literally thousands of private networks existing on the Internet - all ran by sophisticated hardware/software called a 'List Server'. Most Internet List Servers are operated by Universities
and some Government agencies - usually free of charge.
I'm very happy to announce that SOLO-Net is being hosted by St. Johns University, (Jamaica, NYC) FREE of charge...! The University does not monitor messages nor do they participate in any
way with an electronic network designated as "private". They will however, act as a "last resort" when problems exist with respect to the operation of the network which cannot be resolved by the network administrator.
